Okidi - Tension

from Ugandan Recordings by Various Artists

about

Scandal Studios - Ugandan Recordings

The Ugandan Okidi group consists of Ocira Bosco on lead vocals, two 'orak' (half calabash) players and a women ululating (making a long, wavering, high-pitched vocal sound). During this performance the orak is being struck with spokes from a bicycle. When Ocira is not singing, he plays 'bila' (small horn).

Ocira Bosco: “In this song we plead for Acholi people to support each other and stop on-going land wrangles. Everyone is equal and we should all live like our ancestors, who led by good example. The most important thing at this moment is not to destabilize peace.”
